ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Interacts and communicates with physicians, support staff, and other health care professionals to facilitate departmental operations.
  • Applies the profession’s code of ethics in all aspects of practice.
  • Assigns staff and workload requirements respecting changing priorities in daily operations.
  • Provides training and staff development through ongoing in-services.
  • Organize and maintain formal course of development in non-invasive laboratories techniques for trainees, technicians and support staff.
  • Continuously monitors staffing levels and adjusts as appropriate to meet various clinical care and financial objectives.
  • Gathers data and participates in the department’s quality assurance and improvement plan to achieve a defined level of quality and appropriateness of quality care services.
  • Disseminates and assures compliance with department and institutional policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Controls inventory, cares for, and purchases supplies regarding areas of responsibility.
  • Monitors revenue and expense budgets on an on-going basis and takes appropriate action to ensure practice is within budget guidelines.
  • Assures staff is trained and competent and documents the effects on patient care.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Cardiac Services to lead, design, and implement efforts to improve operational performance.
  • Provides project management leadership as needed and assigned.
  • Enhances operational effectiveness, emphasizing cost containment without jeopardizing patient care priorities, improvement, innovation or quality of care.
  • Assists in new program/service development from an operational perspective.
  • Ensures targets for improvements in patient services, productivity, and cost management are met.
  • Ensures that areas of responsibility are managed according to industry best practices, regulatory standards.
  • Maintains a continuous physical presence within the assigned areas and responds to requests for assistance.
  • Maintains knowledge of, observes, and enforces the safety measures in Environment of Care.
  • Demonstrates a high level of productivity and dependability
  • Works diligently with other departments on various projects as necessary or as assigned.
  • Evaluates staff, monitors performance and providing guidance to constructively influence staff morale.
  • Monitors the status of equipment repairs and preventative maintenance, gathers data on equipment malfunction and associated down time, and documents its effects on patient care.
  • Assists Medical Director with accreditation processes.
  • Assists the Director of Cardiac Services and Medical Directors in maintaining quality control of the procedures.
  • Assists the Director of Cardiac Services and Medical Directors in implementation of new and advanced techniques for patient care.
  • Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Marginal or Periodic Functions:

  • Serves, as requested, on task forces, work groups, or committees.
  • Networks with other departments and services to further program development
  • Gathers data and participates in the department’s quality assurance and improvement plan.
  • Performs related duties as required and assigned.

Received: Director of Cardiac Services

Given: Twenty employees including sonographers, nurses, and patient services specialists

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT

  • Ultrasound equipment and other laboratory equipment commonly used in a non-invasive cardiovascular laboratory.
  • Standard office equipment.
  • May be required to travel to other campuses to perform duties.
  • May be required to work in outpatients and inpatients, correctional patients setting.
  • May be required to be on standby and work extended shifts in situations deemed
  • necessary.
  • Work environment is located in a comfortable indoor area.
  • Conditions such as noise, odors, cramped workspace and/or fumes could sometimes cause discomfort.
  • Moderate to extreme physical effort may be required such as walking, performing CPR, standing and lifting materials, equipment, objects, and/or patients.
  • Occasional lifting may be heavy and awkward, over 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to work long distances
  • Vision, hearing, talking, and sense of touch must be adequate to quickly and accurately perform tasks such as reading small print, reading from monitoring equipment, defining details, sending and receiving clear and accurate oral communication.
  • May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, radiation, chemotherapeutic agents, and disoriented or combative patients.
  • Frequent periods of concentrated or focused attention will be needed to interpret visual, auditory, and sensory input.
  • Alertness and careful attention to detail will be required to avoid injury.
  • May work extended shifts as necessary to complete job objectives.
